Our last race of the season. For most team members, it was a long drive up early Sunday morning. A late start to our preride almost got us caught on the course as the girls were starting. Luckily, everyone got in the groove as the races started and the team did a great job.

Michael St.Peter cranks out the final race of the season. Michael is one of the veterans of our MTB team.
Julie Lewis, Veronica Vanderstoep and Coach Roads after the start of Abi's race. Thanks to Julie for once again supplying the team with those incredible strawberries!

Veronica, is part of "the" biking family, her older son is on the Harbor Team (currently ranking 12th for the season) and when not attending a NorCal event, is often found at a CCCX series event with Jordan (our winning freshman in training!). Hank Verderstoep is a coach for the Harbor Team. Vanderstoep vacations tend to revolve completely around biking.

Abi is looking good for the first lap, (the onset of a cold had her doubting the race during the pre-ride) and went on to complete the second lap in great time.
The Kirby men ready to roll at Boggs for the last race of the season, with head Coach Roads and Assistant Coach Dietmar.
The last turn before the run for the finish line caused a few problems for multiple riders. Abi was able to take advantage of it, passing two other girls before the finish. In the above photo, Carl turns the last hair-pin for the finish looking strong and riding hard!
Maybe becuase he pounded out 12 miles at full speed, Carl takes a spill 30 feet from the finish line! Carl's knee which is about to hit the ground in this photo started bleeding and swelling up within seconds of the finish. The good news is the other riders in the photo were from a different category..
Knowing how to run with his bike in tow (Carl started the season training on the Rock Lobster Cyclo Cross Team) he gets up and runs across the finish line to a cheering crowd! It was an awesome sight! Carl placed 7th in this race.
Abi, above, crossing the finish line after dropping two other girls at the last hair-pin turn 30 feet before the finish!
Bella, became famous this year when she helped Matt escape a building fire. She became well known at our races too, always ready for someone to throw her a stick...
Carl shows the crowd how to take a spill and still have a great finish!
Here's a guy who has really turned it on in the last two months. Kai Cahlil, right and below, has been riding very well at the last six practices and has consistently been improving during the last two races. If Kai keeps his riding up during summer and fall, he'll be tough competition during his sophomore year...
